The 2026 Nebraska Young Child Institute is now accepting proposals from professionals eager to share their knowledge and expertise to improve outcomes for young children and their families.

Conference Details
The NYCI is a multidisciplinary conference bringing together professionals to assess and respond to the most pressing needs of young children and families.
Audience
The NYCI is intended for professionals wanting to improve the well-being of Nebraska’s youngest, such as
- Judges, county attorneys, and caseworkers
- Parents' attorneys, guardians ad litem, and CASAs
- Early Development Network (EDN) providers and Head Start personnel
- School representatives and early childhood educators
- Home visitors and family service providers
- Medical, health, and mental health professionals
- Family members and other stakeholders in child welfare
Session Structure & Learning Levels
The conference is designed to provide opportunities for all attendees to learn regardless of their level of expertise. Sessions will feature the latest research, promising practices, and practical applications tailored to any of these three levels:
- Foundational: Attendee has minimal or no prior knowledge of the topic.
- Intermediate: Attendee has some prior knowledge/experience with the topic.
- Advanced: Attendee has significant or advanced knowledge/experience with the topic.
There will be six concurrent breakout sessions over two days. Each session is 60 minutes, allowing speakers to speak for 50 minutes and answer questions at the end.
Requirements
Session Topic Areas
Proposals will be considered for sessions featuring content relevant to professionals working with young children and their families and are focused on addressing one or more of the topical areas listed below:
- Trauma/Resiliency on the Developing Child
- Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health or Services
- Early Education
- Early Childhood Development
- Courts and Child Welfare Practices
- Health and Medical Services
- Family-Centered Services and Resources
- Provider Mental Health and Well-Being
- Strengthening Partnerships to Support Young Children
While we welcome a wide range of presentations, please consider proposing content that would meet an intermediate or advanced level. The NYCI Planning Committee is specifically looking for sessions to build upon attendees’ foundational knowledge.
Application Information
- You must complete the proposal form in one sitting (progress cannot be saved).
- You can submit up to 2 sessions on the application.
- You must provide the following details at the time of submission:
- Speaker and co-speaker information (if any), including:
- Full name, job title, agency/organization, email address, cell phone number, short professional bio, and speaking availability
- Session information (for each proposed session) including:
- Title
- Full session description
- Learning objective(s)
- Audience level
- Intended audience
- Which topic areas this session will fulfill
- Any special room/equipment accommodations
- Speaker and co-speaker information (if any), including:
If your application is accepted, this information will be used in the conference agenda.
Speaker Commitment and Conditions
- All speakers must present in-person on assigned date(s) and time(s).
- By submitting your proposal and upon acceptance, you and any co-speakers agree to all of the following:
- present without an honorarium from the Nebraska Young Child Institute
- each pay the $60 conference registration fee
- cover your own travel expenses
- Any special scheduling or room/equipment accommodation requests must be made at time of proposal acceptance. We cannot guarantee that all requests will be accommodated. The conference coordinator will contact you if we are unable to do so.
- Your presentation must be accessibility compliant.
- If you need a laptop for your presentation, you must bring your own.
- If using slides, you must include an opening and closing slide (provided by NYCI) with the NYCI logo and a QR code for the post-session evaluation link.
- Accepted speakers are strongly encouraged to upload supporting session materials (e.g., a PowerPoint and/or optional handout documents) prior to the conference to be shared with attendees on the conference website.
Review Process
- Only proposals that are complete when submitted will be considered.
- After submission, you will receive a copy of your proposal at the email address you provided in your proposal.
- Proposals will be reviewed by the 2026 NYCI’s Planning Committee after the submission deadline (September 12, 2025). We will contact you to inform you if your proposal is accepted or not. If accepted, we will provide additional conference information to you. See timeline
We have a limited number of sessions to fill so we may not be able to accept every proposal.
Timeline
- May 5 - September 12, 2025: Proposal application is open
- September - October 2025: Proposals reviewed by the NYCI Planning Committee
- By October 31, 2025: Applicants notified of acceptance status
- November 2025: Accepted applicants receive additional conference information (including additional conference speaker deadlines and a speaker agreement form)
- December 1, 2025: Deadline to submit speaker agreement form
- By January 31, 2026: Accepted applicants receive assigned session date(s) and time(s)
- Late February 2026: Registration opens (All speakers must register to attend)
